Alcoholic Cocktails

   Tequila is a fine and complex liquor and as such it must be sipped slowly. It should be served at room temperature, although some like it ice cold. Traditionally most people serve it in a "caballito", a 2oz glass made exclusively for this purpose. Blanco and Reposado may be accompanied by "sangrita" made of tomato and orange juice with salt and chile. Añejo is preferably served in a snifter so that the aroma is fully appreciated. The tequila shot with lime and salt is Hollywood stuff and few people drink it that way. However, some people do put some lime juice in the tequila or bite the lime before sipping it.
Apple Margarita (frozen)
Ingredients:

1 cup of ice
1 oz tequila
1 oz apple brandy
2 tbsp applesauce
1 oz sour mix
innamon and sugar for glass rimming
Apple wedge for garnish
Instructions:
Pour the ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. If desired, wet the rim of a chilled margarita glass with apple brandy and rim the glass with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Pour contents into the glass. Garnish with the green apple wedge.
Aztec
Ingredients:

3 oz Champagne
3/4 oz watermelon schnapps
1/2 oz gold tequila
Instructions:
Pour ingredients into a champagne flute and serve.
Bird of Paradise
Ingredients:

3/4 oz tequila
3/4 oz white creme de cacao
1/2 oz amaretto
1 oz cream
Instructions:
Shake well with ice, strain into large martini glass.
Bloody Maria
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz silver tequila
4 oz tomato juice
Juice of half lime
4 dashes of Cholula
2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
Pinch of salt and pepper
Pinch of horseradish
Garnish: celery stick
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with celery.
Blue Margarita
Ingredients:

2 oz Tequila
1 oz Blue Curacao
1 oz Triple Sec
1 oz Lime Juice
Salt, optional
Garnish: Lime Wedge
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a margarita glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with lime wedge.
Blue Tahoe
Ingredients:

1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
4-5 ice cubes
1 oz tequila
1 cherry
1 oz lime juice
Mint leaves
1 slice lemon
Fill with Champagne
1 slice orange
Instructions:
Put all ingredients in together followed by the champagne last.
Brave Bull
Ingredients:

1 1/4 oz Sauza Hornitos tequila
1 1/2 oz Kahlua
1 squeeze lime
Instructions:
Combine in mixing glass filled with ice. Stir and serve in rock glass with ice. Garnish with lime wedge.
Cactus Pear Margarita
Ingredients:

2 oz silver tequila
1/2 oz triple sec
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz fresh cactus pear juice or puree
3/4 oz Monin Desert Pear Syrup
Garnish: Lime wedge
Rim: Chipotle salt
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain the mixture into a double rocks glass. Rim the glass with a chipotle salt.
Champange Rita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz tequila
1 1/2 oz limeade
1 1/2 tsp triple sec
3 oz Champagne
Instructions:
Pour the tequila and triple sec into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a champagne flute. Add limeade and champagne, stir briefly and serve.
Corcovado
Ingredients:

1 measure blue curacao
1 measure tequila
1 measure Drambuie
Lemonade to top up
Instructions:
Shake the ingredients well with ice and strain into a tall tumbler filled with crushed ice. Top up with lemonade and decorate with a slice of lemon or lime.
Cosmolito
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz silver tequila
1/4 oz Cointreau
2 oz cranberry juice
Juice of half lime
Garnish: lime wheel, optional
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
Doralto
Ingredients:

2 oz tequila
1 oz lemon juice
4 oz tonic water
1 tsp simple syrup
Dash of bitters
Garnish: lime wedge
Instructions:
Shake tequila, lemon juice, simple syrup and bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a tall glass and top with tonic water. Garnish with lime wedge.
Dynamite
Ingredients:

1 ounce Reposado tequila
1 ounce Blanco tequila
1 ounce Clamato juice
Instructions:
Pour contents into glass. Add one-half teaspoon of Tabasco sauce and the juice of one half lime. Mix contents and add crushed ice, and salt to taste.
Electric Blue Margarita
Ingredients:

1 oz Cointreau
1 oz Herradura Silver Tequila
1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
1/2 oz Blue Curacao
4 oz Sour Mix
Garnish: Lemon slice
Instructions:
Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Fill glass with ice. Strain the mixture over fresh ice and garnish with lemon slice and serve.
Firecracker
Ingredients:

1/2 oz. Jose Cuervo Especial tequila
1/2 oz. Goldschlager
1/2 oz. Rumple Mintze
Garnish: None
Instructions:
Mix all three ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain the mixture into a shot glass.
Frozen Mango Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Jose Cuervo Especial
3 oz. Lime Margarita Mix
1 cup peeled, diced ripe mango
1/4 oz simple syrup
1 cup crushed ice (or more)
Lime wedge
Instructions:
Rub the rim of a margarita glass with a lime and dip into sugar. Mix all ingredients (except sugar and lime wedge) in blender until smooth. Pour into glass and garnish with a fresh lime wedge.
Frozen Margarita
Ingredients:

2 oz tequila (silver)
Juice of one lime
1 oz orange curacao or triple sec
1 cup ice cubes
Salt, optional
Garnish: lime wedge
Instructions:
Rub the rim of a margarita glass and dip it into salt. Mix tequila, lime juice, triple sec and ice in a blender. Pour into a glass and garnish with a lime wedge.
Golden Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Gold Tequila
1/2 oz Grand Mariner, Cointreau, or Triple Sec
1/2 oz lime juice
3 oz sour mix
Dash of orange juice, optional
Lime wedge for garnish
Salt for rimming glass, optional
Instructions:
Pour the ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. If desired, salt the rim of a chilled margarita glass. Pour contents, with ice, into the glass. Garnish with the lime wedge.
Hawaiian Margarita (frozen)
Ingredients:

1 cup of ice
1 1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz Triple Sec
2 oz fresh or frozen strawberries
2 oz fresh or canned pineapple
Dash of sour mix
Strawberry and/or pineapple for garnish
Instructions:
Pour the ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour contents into a chilled margarita glass. Garnish with the strawberries and pineapple.
Hibiscus Margarita
Ingredients:

1 oz tequila don julio reposado
1 oz hibiscus elixir (boil hibiscus flower, add dash of pomegranate juice and fresh orange juice)
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
1 oz agave nectar
1 oz fresh lime juice
5 ice cubes
Garnish: lime wedge
Instructions:
Mix tequila, hibiscus elixir, Grand Marnier, agave nectar, fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Rim a martini glass with mixture of chile pasilla and salt. Pour the mixture into the glass and garnish with lime wedge.
Honey Mango Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz reposado tequila
1/2 oz Cointreau
1 oz honey
1/2 cup mango, sliced
1 cup ice
Juice of half lime
Salt for rimming, optional
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Strain into a margarita glass rimmed with salt.
Jamaica (Hibiscus) Margarita
Ingredients:

2 shots of chilled Agua de Jamaica
1 shot Tequila Tezón Blanco
Shot of simple syrup
Juice from 1/2 a lime
Lime wedge for garnish
Instructions:
Pour the Agua de Jamaica, tequila, simple syrup and lime juice into a chilled cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled margarita glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Kiwi Margarita
Ingredients:

2 oz tequila
2 oz pineapple juice

1 oz triple sec
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
1 kiwi fruit, peeled and quartered
Garnish: half kiwi slice
Instructions:
Combine the ingredients in a blender with 1/2 cup ice and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and garnish with a half kiwi slice. If desired, coat the rim of the glass with sugar.
Lemon Herb Cello
Ingredients:

1 bunch of fresh tarragon
2 oz tequila blanco
1 oz lemon thyme syrup
Splash of fresh lemon juice
Splash of fresh lime juice
Instructions:
Tear one bunch of tarragon leaves into a Boston shaker. Add tequila, lemon thyme syrup and a splash of fresh lemon and lime juice. Shake with ice and strain into a julep strainer into a martini glass.
Mango Margarita
Ingredients:

2 oz 1800 Reposado Tequila
3/4 oz Grand Marnier
1 oz Fresh Mango Nectar
3/4 oz Fresh Orange Juice
3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1 tsp Simple syrup
Instructions:
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass and shake. Strain into a chilled margarita glass. Garnish with a mango slice.
Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 measures tequila
1/2 measure Cointreau
1 measure lemon or lime juice
Instructions:
Moisten the inner and outer edge of a cocktail glass with a slice of lemon or lime and dip in fine salt. Shake the ingredients well with ice and strain into a glass.
Petroleo
Ingredients:

1-1/2 ounces tequila
1 ounce Mexican lime juice
1 serrano chile halved from top to bottom
Instructions:
Pour the tequila and lime juice into a small glass. Add salt, pepper, Maggi sauce and Worcestershire sauce to taste. Mix ingredients. Add one half of the serrano chile and one or two ice cubes. Use Blanco or Reposado tequila.
Nasturtium Margarita
Ingredients:

2 parts nasturtium infused tequila
1/2 part Cointreau
1/2 part simple syrup
1/2 part fresh squeezed lime juice
Instructions:
Rim martini glass with nasturtium salt (see below). Add tequila, lime juice, simple syrup and cointreau to shaker filled with ice. Shake mixture until container feels cold. Strain into chilled glass. Garnish with a nasturtium flower.
Paloma
Ingredients:

2 oz. Don Eduardo Anejo Tequila
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. grapefruit soda
Sprite
Garnish: lime wedge
Instructions:
Build over ice in a tall glass and serve with a salted rim. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Psycho Tsunami
Ingredients:

1/2 oz blue Curacao
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz tequila
2 dashes Tabasco
Instructions:
Build in a shot glass in above order. Allow Tabasco to settle before imbibing.
Ruby Rita
Ingredients:

35 ml tequila
30 ml pink grapefruit juice
20 ml cointreau
Instructions:
Shake ingredients with ice and strain over fresh ice into a tumbler Garnish with a salt rim and a slice of ruby grapefruit.
Sake Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz plum wine
1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz sake
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Garnish: cucumber slice, optional
Instructions:
Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a glass. If serving frozen, combine the ingredients in a blender with 3/4 cup ice and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass. Garnish with a cucumber slice, if desired.
Shady Lady
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz tequila
3/4 oz Midori
Juice of 1 grapefruit
Instructions:
Shake well with ice, strain into rocks glass filled with ice.
Silk Stocking
Ingredients:

2 oz Tequila
1 oz Heavy Cream
1 oz Creme de Cacao
1 tsp Chambord
Instructions:
Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
Spiced Tamarind Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Partida Tequila Reposado
1/2 oz Becherovka
1/2 oz Tamarind Pulp
1/2 oz Partida Agave Nectar
1/2 tea spoon Tabasco Chipotle
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain the mixture into a margarita glass.
Spicy Cucumber Margarita
Ingredients:

1/2 cucumber, peeled and cubed
1 slice seedless jalapeno pepper, minced
1 oz tequila Don Julio reposado
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
Splash of sour mix
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
5 ice cubes
1 cucumber slice
1 mini pepper
Instructions:
In a boston shaker, muddle cucumber and jalapeno pepper. Add tequila, fresh lime juice, splash of sour mix, Grand Marnier, and ice to shake. Strain into a tall glass and garnish with mini pepper.
Strawberry Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz silver tequila
1/2 oz triple sec
Juice of half lime
2 strawberries
Garnish: strawberry
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients with 4 to 5 ice cubes until smooth. Pour into a margarita glass. Garnish with a strawberry on the rim.
Sweet Ginger Margarita
Ingredients:

1 inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
2 tablespoons simple syrup
2 oz white tequila
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
Splash of lemon juice
Garnish: candied ginger, optional
Instructions:
Heat the fresh ginger slices with the simple syrup in a pan over low heat for about 5 minutes. The syrup should thicken significantly. Combine the ginger syrup, tequila, Grand Marnier, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously for a good 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with candied ginger, if desired.
Tequila Mockingbird
Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsweetened apple cider
2 oz. tequila
2 oz. black currant-flavored liqueur (Cassis)
2 tsp. fresh lime juice
Ice
Instructions:
Pour apple cider, tequila, black currant-flavored liqueur and lime juice over ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Pour contents of cocktail shaker, including ice, into 2 old-fashioned glasses.
Tijuana Sling
Ingredients:

1 1/4 oz tequila
3/4 oz creme de cassis
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
2 dashes peychard bitters
Carbonated water
Instructions:
Shake ingredients (except carbonated water) and strain over ice into a 12 ounce collins glass. Top with carbonated water. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Tequila Shot
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz tequila
1/2 lemon
Salt
Instructions:
First suck the lemon, place salt on tongue, then swallow tequila.
Tequila Sour
Ingredients:

1-1/2 onces tequila
2 ounces lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar
Instructions:
Blend ingredients with crushed ice and strain into sour glass. Garnish with a red cherry. Use Añejo for a better taste.
Tequila Sunrise
Ingredients:

7 ml grenadine
7 ml creme de cassis
Splash soda
Fill the orange juice
20 ml reposado tequila
Instructions:
Shake grenadine, creme de cassis, soda and strain in icefilled collins glass. Add ice and orange juice, float tequila.
Toreador
Ingredients:

2 oz Tequila
1 oz Creme de Cacao (dark)
1 oz Heavy Cream
1/4 tsp Cocoa Powder
Instructions:
Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice cubes and strain into a cocktail glass.
Viva Maria
Ingredients:

1 measure tequila
1/2 measure lime juice
1/4 measure maraschino
1/2 teaspoon grenadine
1/2 egg white
Instructions:
Shake the ingredients well with ice and strain into a wide champagne glass filled with crushed ice. Decorate with a lemon slice, a lime slice and a cocktail cherry.
Viva Villa
Ingredients:

2 oz Tequila
1 oz Lime Juice
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
1 tsp Superfine Sugar
Garnish: Lime Wedge
Instructions:
Rub the rim of cocktail glass with lime wedge and dip into the sugar to coat the edge. Shake tequila, lime juice, lemon juice, shaker with ice cubes and strain into a cocktail glass.
Watermelon Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 parts Marie Brizard Watermelon Liqueur
1 1/2 parts Gold Tequila
2 parts Coco Lopez Margarita Mix
1/6 part Lime Juice
Garnish: Watermelon Slice
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a blender with ice until slushy. Pour the mixture into a chilled margarita glass. Garnish with a slice of watermelon.
Watermelon Raspberry Margarita
Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz watermelon puree
3/4 oz raspberry puree
2 oz 1800 Silver Tequila
3/4 of Cointreau
1 oz fresh lime juice
Garnish: raspberry and watermelon chunk
Instructions:
In a tall mixing glass, combine all ingredients. Add ice and shake. Strain into a pre chilled margarita (or martini) glass. Garnish with a skewer of one raspberry and one watermelon chunk.
